CHAPTER 12
Anand in hospital
The ambulance stopped in front of the
hospital. Ward boys took Anand on a stretcher into the hospital. The stretcher was
taken to the out patient ward. Coach Raghuram went towards the chairman Dr.
Ravi’s room. An attendee was sitting outside the door. Raghuram gave his
visiting card to him. He went inside with the card and then came out quickly
signalling to Raghuram to go inside. Raghuram entered the room.
Chairman Dr.Ravi was looking at some
papers. He looked up as Raghuram entered the room. “Hello, Mr. Raghuram. What a
great surprise.”
Raghuram shook hands with Dr.Ravi and sat
down.
Looking at Dr.Ravi, Raghuram said, “Sir, my
student has severe pain in his legs. He is unable to even move them. I have admitted
him in your hospital. Can you please come and check him?”
Dr. Ravi got up. “Sure. Let us go.”
Both of them go out.
Anand was lying on the bed in the out
patient room, crying with pain. One doctor was examining him. Doctor motioned
to nurse to give Anand an injection. The nurse immediately gave Anand an
injection. Anand closed his eyes slowly. The coach Raghuram was waiting
anxiously outside the out patient room. Suddenly
he remembered that he should to inform Anand’s parents about the incident. He
removed his cell and phoned to Anand’s mother.
At that time Rekha was sitting in the hall
of her house reading a magazine. Cell began ringing. Rekha lifted her ringing
cell and said, “Hello.”
Raghuram said on phone, “Rekha madam, I have admitted Anand to a
hospital.”
Rekha was shocked to hear this. “Why? What has happened to him?”
Raghuram tried to calm her down saying, “Don’t worry. Anand is fine. He
got severe pain in his legs and could not walk. So I took him to Global
hospital which is near our academy. The doctors are examining him. Please come
immediately.”
Rekha said, “I will be there soon,” She got
up and took her shawl and purse. She went out of the house and locked the door.
Rekha looked around to see if there was any
auto to go to the hospital. She was worried about Anand. Suddenly she saw one
auto coming towards her. She stopped the rickshaw and sat inside.
“Take me to Global hospital.”
The
driver nodded and started the auto.
Meanwhile at the hospital, Doctor came out of
the room. Coach looked at him anxiously. Doctor signalled to Raghuram and went
into his office. Raghuram followed him into the room.
In Ravi’s room, Raghuram sat down in front
of Dr.Ravi. Raghuram was very anxious to know about Anand. He asked, “Doctor,
what is wrong with the boy?”
Dr. Ravi said, “I have just checked him. He
has a very bad pain. But I am just a heart surgeon. I have called a neurologist.
He is right now in the operation theatre. He will arrive soon to check Anand.”
Raghuram said proudly, “Anand is a very
good boy. Also he is trying for the State level Chess Championship.”
Impressed, Dr. Ravi said, “Very good.”
Raghuram was worried. “Only 15 days are
left for the championship. I am worried about this sudden pain in his legs. I
hope that it will not affect his future.”
Dr. Ravinderanath assured him saying, “We have
to check everything thoroughly before coming to any conclusion. Let the
neurologist, Dr. Shrikanth arrive.”
