CHAPTER 3
Children go to school
Rekha came out of the kitchen with a glass
of hot milk and one cup of tea. She was surprised to see her husband fully
dressed so early.
Rekha asked, “How come you are going out
so soon today?”
She went to give him tea. Vimal refused to
take the cup and acted as if he was too busy. “Today, my boss has called me
urgently. I have to meet him at 7:30 am itself. It is already late. I don’t have
time to drink tea.”
He put on his slippers and went out in a
hurry. Rekha looked at him in surprise. She shook her head and then entered her
son’s room.
Rekha held the glass in front of Anand and
said, “Drink hot milk. The breakfast is also ready. Come.”
Anand finished his breakfast and was ready
to go to school. Rekha came out of the kitchen with a lunch box. Just then
Anands friends Avinash and blind Sindu entered the hall.
Seeing Rekha in the hall, Avinash asked,
“Is Anand ready?”
Rekha smiled at Avinash and said, “Yes.”
Looking towards the bedroom and raising her
voice, Rekha shouted, “Anand, Avinash is here.”
Anand immediately came out of his room with
a school bag.
He looked at his best friend Avinash and said,
“I am ready.”
Taking the meal
box from his mother, he put it in his bag.
Anand waved at his mother. “Bye Mommy.”
Waving to the children, happily, Rekha shouts, “Bye
bye.”
The
children went down the steps and climbed into an auto rickshaw. Rekha watched them
go.
