CHAPTER 27
Avinash in serious condition
Avinash was admitted in the hospital. Dr.
Shrikanth and Dr. Ravi were examining him.
Avinash’s mother, Vimal and Rekha were
waiting anxiously outside the OT. Vimal’s cell rang. Putting the cell to his
ear, Vimal said, “Hello, Avinash is still in the OT. He is very serious.”
Coach Raghuram was sitting near Anand with
cell at his ear. He was shocked to hear the news. Coach said, “How sad. I will
pass the cell to Anand. He is very anxious to know about Avinash.” He put the
cell to Anand’s ear.
Anand was worried. “Mummy, how is Avinash?
Is he very serious? I want to see him.”
Desperately, Rekha asked, “How will you
come?”
Anand pleaded with his mother saying,
“Please send the ambulance. I must see Avinash.”
Rekha tried to convince Anand not to come.
She said, “No, my son. I will see him and come to tell you all about him.”
Anand was not ready to listen. He was
desperate to go see his best friend. “No, Mummy, I must see him. He went
because of me only. He wanted to get chess board for me.”
Knowing very well that Anand will not take
no for an answer, Rekha got up and said, “Ok, I will send the ambulance.”
Ambulance stopped in front of Anand’s
house. Anand was placed in the ambulance on stretcher. Coach sat beside him.
Ambulance reached the hospital. Anand was
placed on a stretcher and moved towards the operation theatre. Raghuram went
with him. Avinash’s mother, Vimal and Rekha were waiting anxiously outside OT.
Dr. Ravi came out of the OT.
Anxiously looking at doctor, Anand asked,
“Doctor, how is Avinash?”
Avinash’s mother was most worried. She looked
at the doctor and asked, “Doctor, how is my son?”
Ravi looked at them sadly and said, “The
case is very serious. Both of his kidneys have failed. He needs kidney
transplant urgently. I can make him survive only for 5 days on dialysis. After
that I cannot do anything.”
Avinash’s mother cried loudly. Rekha took
her into her arms and consoled her. Anand was shocked and sad to see all this. He
blamed himself for what had happened. After all Avinash had gone to bring chess
board for him. He closed his eyes for a while and then turned to his mother and
said, “Mummy, Avinash will not die. He will survive. Just watch.”
A ray of hope arose on Avinash’s mother’s
face. She looked at Anand hopefully and said, “My son, I hope that what you say
will come true.”
Consoling her, Anand said, “Aunty, don’t
worry. Avinash is my best friend. He went out just for me. He will survive.”
Anand looked at his mother and said, “Mummy,
let us go to the church. We must pray for Avinash.”
Raghuram
took everyone to the church. They all prayed for Avinash.
